Bay Zoltán Applied Research Foundation Institute of Biotechnology (BAYBIO) has begun its operation in 1993. Its main profile is environmental protection: ing new, environmentally friendly tecnologies and methods for removing biological and chemical pollution from the environment and assisting its partners in implamanting these methods in practice. They participate in avertion of environmental damages by using these methods in its enterprises. Besides research and devlopment they emphasise on the educatiion a highliy qualified, solution-oriented, young group of experts. For this reason a close co-operation with the University of Szeged is maintained. BAYBIO also participates in the education of university and PhD students. The organization is funded 80% by its own R&D incomes from GO's and NGO's. The rest of its budget comes from the Foundation. The institute has an expanding contract portfolio due to its highly qualified group of experts (ranging from chemists, biologists and doctors through food enginrres, water engineers to qualified laboratory assistants) and high efficiency as a professional R&D center.

The Cereal Research Non-Profit Ltd. – with its headquarter in Szeged - is the largest Hungarian agricultural research institute, operating in the breeding and the production research of cereals and industrial plants. The institute has been in service for the agriculture since 1924 with developing the biological bases. It currently possesses 160 certified varieties and hybrids of 25 plant species, the overall domestic and foreign production area of which approaches 1 million acres. The company was founded by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, employs more than 300 people, and has an annual income around 2 billion Forints.
